Nanholme Open Weekend 20 -21 May

  • Foldworks Shaw Wood Rd Todmorden, England, OL14 6DA United Kingdom (map)

Nanholme Mill is having an open weekend. The whole of the mill will be open. At No 11 we have Arc Publishing, Blott Works, General Patt’rn, and Outsiders Photography and we are open 20th and 21st May from 11 am to 6 pm. Kate Mellor will be exhibiting recent photographic works taken locally. She says of her exhibition Upper Calder Catchment Area, “ These are relics from the famous Boxing Day floods which, as you can see from its location, affected our workshop. How to describe a process that has taken an era; that becomes invisible through the length of time it has taken? Although the work seems to buy in to the pictorialism of the early pioneer photographers it is disrupted alluding to the changes that we can see happening in the environment now. The titles reference catchment data by area although it falls in the Upper Calder region. The landscapes that I make are nonetheless characteristic of the area including many of the noted features. With superimposition I have chosen to indicate that water flows through all things, even inanimate objects which is understandable to those who dwell in a wet climate. There is refraction by photography itself and furthermore by the blocking of lines leading into the depths of the landscape. Also there is often staining, further emphasizing the flow of water. The floods are becoming more frequent linking my home to worldwide events “
