Memoria: Histories, Memories, Representations presents a collection of new work by Patrick Eyres, Wendy Frith, Tom Steele, Phil Moody, Hannah Kemp, David Bridges, Jill Good, Simon Ford and Steve Hanson. Stimulated by encounters with Armley Mill in Leeds, once one of the largest woollen mills in the world, it is now the home of Leeds Industrial Museum and as such is authorised to ‘reveal the truth of the past’. The book asks whose past is presented? Whose history is given? Whose stories are told? It insists that history is partial and selective. Historical discourses interpret what they purport to reveal, in terms of specific interests in the present, and are always political.
